Above is a picture of the top of the stairs in Housemaid's Heights. The Bannisters are well made, solid and functional.

In Victorian times, the female staff lived above the East Wing of the Palace in Housemaid's Heights. This is how they look today, but a century ago they would have looked very different. However, servants were not allowed to decorate their rooms with personal things like pictures.

This is one of the bedrooms. It was simply furnished with a fire for the winter. It would also have had a simple dresser, a chair and a basic washstand.
